REKA E ALLEGES TO KUCISHTE

This section of the Peaks of the Balkans Trail takes you from the Reka e Alleges to Kucishte featuring the famous Hajla Mountain and multiple Kosovari villages. Although it is a long day hike, this section is not very difficult because much of the trail is dirt and gravel road. NAVIGATING FROM REKA E ALLEGES TO KUCISHTE

The hike starts with an ascent northwest through the meadow behind Mustafa’s guesthouse. When reaching the pine trees, turn right (east) along a mule track. The track is lined by a fence on your right, and a few meters further on you will turn left at the junction. After a few hundred meters following northeast, you reach a meadow with beautiful views towards Reka e Allagёs and the surrounding mountains. Soon you will cross a dirt road and follow the ascent northwest through the forest. Continue North until reaching the meadow with a tourist shelter just below Hajla Mountain.

From here, follow west along a dirt road to Pepaj village. On the way to Pepaj there are two water sources along the road. Start your decent to Pepaj village. After about 1 kilometer, you will see a cemetery on your right. Take a right turn at the junction a few meters further on. The descent follows very gently along a gravel road no longer used by cars; auto traffic having moved to a more recently built road. By following this road for a few kilometers, you will reach Drelaj village and from here you turn right at the junction. Continue southwest through the village along a road lined by fences. This road leads you to the village exit, a bridge. We cross the bridge and follow a gravel road ascending north along the river into a beautiful canyon.

Take a left turn after crossing the bridge and approximately 1 kilometer further on you meet the main road. Here you can hire a taxi to Kucishtё. I suggest take the taxi or hitchhiking because the remainder of the hiking is uneventful. If you want to continue hiking, bear left at the junction and follow the ascending gravel road northwest. Soon you will arrive at Dugaivё, you can take the dirt roads or continue through the meadow into the forest. After about 200m start descending along a mule track through the forest which leads you to Kucishtё village. At the village, take the dirt road and continue southwest until you meet the paved road at the bridge. Continue south for about 4km and you will reach the Guri i Kuk Hotel marking the end of your hike.
