Long ago a glacier carved away the mountains and left us with the spectacular Grebaje Valley. Today it stands as one of the top destinations for mountain lovers in Montenegro. Here you will find adventure for every type of traveler. From beautiful hikes to coffee with a view, Grebaje Valley is a place you must visit when in Montenegro.
HOW TO GET TO GREBAJE VALLEY
Grebaje is easily accessible from Gusinje, Montenegro. From the center of the small town you will take a 10 minute drive into the valley. Catching a ride to Grebaje from Gusinje will only cost you about 10 euros. Be sure to arrange pick up because cell phone service is poor in the valley. Also, you can walk or even ride a bike if you like, as it is only about 5km to the valley.
WHAT TO DO IN GREBAJE VALLEY?
TAKE A HIKE – There are a number of hikes that begin from the valley, but the best hike by far is to Talijanka. The hike is a fairly easy, but it is one of the best in the area because it offers hands down the best view of the Accursed Mountain Range. This hike is also featured on my specialized version of the Peaks of the Balkans.
GREBAJE FESTIVAL – The annual festival in Grebaje is held on the 13th of August. This is a favorite for travelers because it offers great insight into the culture of the area. Every year hundreds of people gather to take part in traditional dancing, music and food. Here you will have a blast dancing your butt off and enjoying drinks with the locals. WALK THE VALLEY – Taking a casual walk through through the valley is one of my favorite activities in Grebaje. The towering peaks of the valley surround you with stunning views. You can walk to the end of the valley in about half an hour. Keep an eye out for the famous “Kissing Cats,” rock formation on your left side high on the mountain tops.
ENJOY THE NATURE – Grebaje Valley is the perfect place to rest and soak up the wonders of nature. Here you find peace surrounded by the towing peaks and grazing animals. There are vast meadows to throw down a blanket and have a nice picnic for the day.
CAMP IN THE VALLEY – A night spent camping in Grebaje Valley is a night you will not forget. For just 3 euros per person you can camp in the National Park. HAVE LUNCH – There are a couple restaurants at the beginning of the valley that serve as the perfect place for a casual lunch with outstanding views. Here you can try some traditional food or enjoy a fresh brewed Turkish coffee.
